Family Tree Software
It is best to use some type of family tree software for keeping track
of your genealogy records. It is best if you starting using the software
right away otherwise you might find yourself in the position of having to
enter a huge amount of information if you delayed your software choice.
Here is a comparison of the more popular family tree software products:
 |
Family Tree Maker. This is
probably the most full-featured family tree software available. It
is our
recommended software. Also, see the review below.

at Ancestry.com.
If, however, you think you don't need all the features Family Tree
Maker offers, consider one of the other software products listed
below:
|
|
Family Tree Legends. This is downloadable
genealogy software that has several useful features: Real-Time Internet Backup to preserve your data,
Real-Time Internet Publishing that
keeps your data on GenCircles up-to-date without having to upload GEDCOM files, Smart-Matching
of your entries to the GenCircles global tree, and Webfacts to give your
related facts in your file such as information on place, date, event, or name.
The software also provides the common genealogy charts, indexing, reports, etc.

Personal Ancestral File. This is
available as a free download. It does not have the full range of
capabilities of Family Tree Maker, but might be good for school
projects, etc.
